The Rainbow Promise of God
Gen 8:22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.
This is a part of the promise God made to the entire human race, through Noah, after the flood. During the past few months much of our nation and indeed, the entire world has been exposed to the ravages of nature. Here in our corner of Northern California, (we consider San Francisco to be in 'Central California') we have had winds of hurricane force, flooding and a few mild earthquakes.
However last week the sun came out for a brief time and there, framing the redwood trees on the hills to our north was a brilliant rainbow!
Then as Edie and I made our way downtown, we noticed the flowering trees in the landscaped areas of the median strip were in full bloom. Rhodies and Camellias and wild plums are flowering, and though roses in this part of the country never stop blooming, my rose bushes are putting out new growth and I haven't gotten them pruned yet! It has been raining all day as I write this, yet I only need to look out my window and there, across the fence, in the neighbor's yard is a cherry tree in full bloom! 'Behold, the rainbow promise of God'!
I am often reminded of the answer of a man who was asked for his favorite passage of scripture. His answer was, " it is a phrase the Bible uses a lot, 'it came to pass' ". His reasoning was clear. It mattered not how unpleasant the circumstances one found themselves in, ‘it would come to pass’.
Isn’t it great that even in the most harsh winter, spring will soon follow? It is even more wonderful that after this life is over, we have an eternal spring to enjoy with our Lord!
Thank You Lord, for Your Rainbow Promise!
