Zechariah # 6

ZECHARIAH
chapter six
This chapter contains the seventh vision, completes the judgment of the world and sees Christ crowned as King. These are more of God's 'pleasant words'to his people.
Vv 1-3 Zech 6:1 And I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came four chariots out from between two mountains; and the mountains were mountains of brass.
Zech 6:2 In the first chariot were red horses; and in the second chariot black horses;
Zech 6:3 And in the third chariot white horses; and in the fourth chariot grisled and bay horses.

A. The two mountains of brass.
Brass speaks of judgment and mountains of governments. These are the two world powers of the end time of which Ezekiel spoke in Ezek.38.

B. The chariots represent four spirits from God and the color of the horses gives us a clue as to what they accomplish or bring to pass. We shall see that they do not picture chronological action but geographic. Their purpose is to stir the world powers to battle.

Vv 4-8. Zech 6:4 Then I answered and said unto the angel that talked with me, What are these, my lord?
Zech 6:5 And the angel answered and said unto me, These are the four spirits of the heavens, which go forth from standing before the Lord of all the earth.
Zech 6:6 The black horses which are therein go forth into the north country; and the white go forth after them; and the grisled go forth toward the south country.
Zech 6:7 And the bay went forth, and sought to go that they might walk to and fro through the earth: and he said, Get you hence, walk to and fro through the earth. So they walked to and fro through the earth.
Zech 6:8 Then cried he upon me, and spake unto me, saying, Behold, these that go toward the north country have quieted my spirit in the north country.

Toward the North countries, go the black horses [death] followed by the white [peace]. Consider the Soviet union in the past and its breakup..
Toward the South go the Grisled. (Dappled) This is a mixture of colors;. Neither all peaceful nor all war and death. (Arab Nations and Africa)
Through the whole earth goes the bay. (Red - Death stalks man everywhere. Terror. Disease, famine, etc.]
All these are pushing man toward the ultimate confrontation from which the anti-christ will emerge.

These seem to be the same as the four winds of; Dan 7:2 Daniel spake and said, I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the four winds of the heaven strove upon the great sea. And the four angels of; Rev 7:1 And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.

V-8. God is finally satisfied that the north countries have been sufficiently punished.

Vv 9-11. Zech 6:9 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
Zech 6:10 Take of them of the captivity, even of Heldai, of Tobijah, and of Jedaiah, which are come from Babylon, and come thou the same day, and go into the house of Josiah the son of Zephaniah;
Zech 6:11 Then take silver and gold, and make crowns, and set them upon the head of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest;
With the visions completed, the Lord turns to the business at hand; The orderly restoration of the priesthood. The crowns are the mitres to be worn by the priests in accordance with the instructions first given to Moses.

Vv 12-13. Zech 6:12 And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD:
Zech 6:13 Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.
Here is a direct prophecy of Christ as referred to in ch.3:8.

A. His lineage is foretold here. Isa 11:1 And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:
Isa 11:2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;

B. He did not grow up in his own land. Mat 2:15 And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.

C. He was to build the Temple of the Lord.
1. This Temple was the New Testament Church. Eph 2:20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
Eph 2:21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
Eph 2:22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
2.No one else can qualify for this job. Psa 127:1 A Song of degrees for Solomon. Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

D. He is to sit upon His throne. Rev 19:16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

E. He shall be a priest. Psa 110:4 The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.

F. Between the office of King and Priest shall be total harmony and peace. and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.

Vv 14-15 .Zech 6:14 And the crowns shall be to Helem, and to Tobijah, and to Jedaiah, and to Hen the son of Zephaniah, for a memorial in the temple of the LORD.
The four orders of the priesthood are ordained to correspond to the sons of Aaron in the beginning
Zech 6:15 And they that are far off shall come and build in the temple of the LORD, and ye shall know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto you. And this shall come to pass, if ye will diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God.
A promise that the worship of Israel will be honored by the entire world..

This looks forward to the millennial reign.
Zech 8:23 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; In those days it shall come to pass, that ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations, even shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you: for we have heard that God is with you.
Isa 35:8 And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein.
