THANKSGIVING
Around the globe, congregations sing the words of 'the Doxology', "Praise God, from whom all blessings flow--" .
Is it sung as a mere ritual, or do the people mean it with all their hearts? Do we really accept the fact that all blessings are from Him? James certainly thought so. James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
We usually have no problem remembering to thank God for the BIG things, such as bringing us safely through a time of crisis. To save our thanks-giving for only these things is short-changing God and robbing ourselves of wonderful opportunities for worship.
Consider, for instance, your sensory perceptions. We have taste buds; God could have made us without these, and given us only one tasteless, all-in-one nutrient to fill our stomachs. We could have functioned just as well, but as you sit down to eat that Thanksgiving dinner, consider what it would be like if the turkey, dressing, candied yams, pumpkin pie, whipped cream, etc. were all equally bland and without taste!
Then there is our eyesight. We could have managed quite well without the ability to distinguish colors. My own father could not tell whether the traffic signal was red or green, only by the position of the lights since they were all the same color to him.
Every time I see a sunset or sunrise or any of the beauties of nature, I thank God for the wonderful gift of color.
As you look into the faces of those gathered at the table, thank God for the wonderful gift of love and friendship with which He has blest us. The human race could have managed to survive with the instincts of the beasts, but isn't it wonderful that the divine attribute of love and friendship holds us together instead of the pack-mentality of the wolves?
So let's enjoy the wonders of this life as well as look forward to the perfect home in our future.
Praise God, from whom ALL blessings flow!
Psa 69:30 I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving
Rev 7:12 Saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen..
Phil 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
Phil 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
TO HIM LET PRAISES RING!
To Thee, Lord, mighty hymns of praise;
To vie with heaven's host;
We, our voices now would raise
To Father, Son and Holy Ghost!
We have far more for which to sing
Than heaven's angel band;
Salvation's ours, let praises ring,
Tell it forth o'er all the land.
Though death be sure for flesh so frail;
Yet happy is our song -
For sun and moon and stars shall pale
Before the raptured, risen throng!
And men of earth shall bow some day
Before our Lord, the King,
Who hears me now each time I pray,
Let His praises ring!
