Zechariah 2

ZECHARIAH
CHAPTER TWO

Recall the theme set forth in Chapter 1:13. Good and comforting things toward Jerusalem and judgment on her enemies.
V-1-5 The measuring of Jerusalem. This measuring is the setting of her boundaries to define that which shall be protected by the hedge which shall be placed. It is like a person who purchases a piece of property and immediately determines the boundaries so that he can erect a fence around it.
V-1,2

Zec 2:1 I lifted up mine eyes again, and looked, and behold a man with a measuring line in his hand.
Zec 2:2 Then said I, Whither goest thou? And he said unto me, To measure Jerusalem, to see what is the breadth thereof, and what is the length thereof
.
This measuring of God's possessions is not unusual. It is as if God is saying, "This is mine. Don't mess with it. The rest, outside these boundaries is not my concern."
Compare Ezekiel Chapter 40 and Rev.11:1.

V-3-5 That which is measured indicates the time period involved in the prophecy.
Zec 2:3 And, behold, the angel that talked with me went forth, and another angel went out to meet him,
Zec 2:4 And said unto him, Run, speak to this young man, saying, Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls for the multitude of men and cattle therein:

Jer 31:40 And the whole valley of the dead bodies, and of the ashes, and all the fields unto the brook of Kidron, unto the corner of the horse gate toward the east, shall be holy unto the LORD; it shall not be plucked up, nor thrown down any more for ever.
Zec 9:8 And I will encamp about mine house because of the army, because of him that passeth by, and because of him that returneth: and no oppressor shall pass through them any more: for now have I seen with mine eyes.

B. The Lord will be her strength and protection.

Isa 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

V-6-9. The final regathering of Israel is promised.

Mat 24:31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
At the return of Christ to begin the thousand year reign they are gathered for the last time.

V-8-9. The judgment of the nations which have destroyed Israel.
Zec 2:8 For thus saith the LORD of hosts; After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye.
Zec 2:9 For, behold, I will shake mine hand upon them, and they shall be a spoil to their servants: and ye shall know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me.
A. This looks forward to the 'Judgment of Nations'
Mat 25:31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:
Mat 25:32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:
Isa 60:12 For the nation and kingdom that will not serve thee shall perish; yea, those nations shall be utterly wasted.

B. The phrase in Zech.2:8, 'after the glory' Refers to the appearing of Christ with his saints in his glorified form. 2 Th 2:8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
