As the Thanksgiving holiday drew to a close I was trying to think of something about which to write for a new Home Page. Nothing came to mind that seemed pertinent, so I did what I often do in such cases; I laid the problem aside and waited for something to present itself.
While exercising my ‘trigger finger’ on the T.V. remote, I surfed across a group of ‘intellectuals’ discussing ‘theology’. I tuned in just in time to hear a woman theologian express, what was to her, an ABSOLUTE. I will paraphrase what she said, "absolutes are dangerous in religion, and that’s why fundamentalism in any religion is dangerous." In truth, the only thing really ABSOLUTE about her statement was its degree of error.
I will not dwell on the absolute errors of false religions, but there are some ABSOLUTE TRUTHS about which Christians must never compromise or doubt.
There is NO SALVATION outside of Christ.
Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
To reject Christ as the Son of God is to be eternally lost.
1 John 4:2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
1 John 4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
2 John 1:7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.
Christ paid the sin debt for EVERY man.
John 12:32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.
Acts 17:30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:
Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
I accept the fact of the resurrection along with Job, Paul and others, to whom this was an ABSOLUTE, which made life bearable.
1 Cor 15:19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.
1 Cor 15:20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.
1 Cor 15:21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.
1 Cor 15:22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
1 Cor 15:23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.
Job 14:14 If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.
Job 14:15 Thou shalt call, and I will answer thee: thou wilt have a desire to the work of thine hands.
Job 19:26 And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:
I really feel sorry for those who can't say, 2 Tim 1:12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.
Dogmatic? Yes, and proud of it. May we never be ashamed to be ABSOLUTE in our faith.
