The power of positive preaching - - - Peter , Paul, John etc.
A. As to the sinfulness of man
Acts 2:23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:
The preaching of Jesus and John the Baptist
Luke 13:2 And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things?
Luke 13:3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
Luke 13:4 Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?
Luke 13:5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
Mat 3:1 In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,
Mat 3:2 And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Mat 3:3 For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
B. As to the ONE plan of salvation
Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
C. Concerning the doctrines of the New Testament
Gal 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed
.Gal 1:9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
Jude 1:3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
II The power of positive belief
2 Tim 1:12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.
A. It enables men to suffer for the truth
Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
Rom 8:18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
B. It convinces others (of the truth and of your sincerity)
Mat 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
C. It makes service worthwhile. (the substance of things hoped for)
Heb 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
III Power of positive action
James 2:18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: show me thy faith without thy works, and I will show thee my faith by my works.
James 2:20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
(Picture the bugler lying in the shade as he sounds the charge!
Speak for Christ, but also LIVE for Him!
Eph 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Don’t pray for rain and then leave the house without your umbrella!
IV He did something positive for you
2 Cor 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
V. Be positive in your faith
James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.James 1:23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:James 1:24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.James 1:25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
